STEVENS TOWING AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Safety and environment are the highest priority at Stevens Towing Co., Inc.   We are committed to reflecting that priority in our decisions, training  and daily operations.  Our employees are aware of the companies environmental policies and the importance of keeping safety and environment a top priority when making decisions.

Tugs and barges are a very efficient method of transporting cargo.  A "Super Jumbo Hopper" is our most commonly used barge.  One super jumbo hopper barge can carry the equivalent of over 108 trucks, or one barge.

Imagine the emissions produced by the trucks compared to the emissions produced by a fuel efficient tug.  The tug and barge combination is safer, cleaner and reduces the amount of traffic on highways.  Less traffic equals cars emitting less pollution from frequent stops and accelerations. 

The following are examples of how our concern for the environment influenced our decisions:

• We are currently re-powering our tugs with Volvo diesels that are more fuel efficient and produce less emissions.
• We are currently replacing our hydraulics oils with a natural vegetable oil base hydraulic oil.
• All of our tugs have equipment on board that enables us to respond to oil spills in our locations.
• Waste oil is saved for recycling.
